As a kid I knew a little about HO model trains. And Lionel trains didn't enter the picture for
me until I was an adult attending train shows and going to visit model trains and Lionel layouts open to the
public.
Model trains, and Lionel trains specifically, were too high priced for our family with five
kids so they never came up. Our dad helped us build a big HO layout in the basement with seperate conrols for all
of us and we had a lot of fun with those trains. If Dad ever had an interest in collecting other
trains and Lionel stuff, he never said.
When I started collecting model trains and Lionel trains and accessories somehow started creeping
into my purchases, the thrill of the hunt took over. Finding great toy trains and Lionel trains, sets, or even
bits and pieces has always been exciting for me. When I head out to estate sales, rummage sales, flea
markets, thrift stores and all the other great bargain locations I am watching for toy trains and Lionel
specifically.
Now days it seems much harder to find super deals on rolling stock, Lionel trains and
accessories, but they still exist. The hunt will continue for many years to come, with any luck at all.
Fortunately, I enjoy almost all toy trains and Lionel trains are certainly no exception.
In fact, when I see the old classic Lionel trains running at the local chapter of the Lionel Railroad
Club, I am captivated and can stand transfixed for long periods of time just watching the trains go by. Below is a
short clip I found online featuring the Lionel Railroad Club of Milwaukee.
