The Playstation 3 console is another strike for glory from the video gaming battlefied. With a mighty sword, Sony Computer Entertainment has taken up the challenge of the next generation console and created the stuff of dreams.
As far back as video gaming goes, getting a product to first has demonstrated both advantages and disadvantages. A huge lead in creating the next generation gaming platform, for example, was granted to Microsoft for the Xbox 360 wich had the advantage of a one year lead over archrival Sony Computer Entertainment's release of the Playstation 3 console.
These archrivals vie for dominantion of the gaming market in our very lving rooms and dorm rooms with powerful micrcomputers capable of Internet access, concealed as game consoles. They leverage space and time by acting as hubs for digital media with equal ease.
During the last year Microsoft sold millions of Xbox 360 consoles and was able to fix reported bugs while at the same time they improved the internal system software. Accessories and signature cames like Gears of War all came out while the world waited for the Playstation 3 console.
Sony Computer Entertainment Shines
While Xbox 360 was revelling in being first to market, Sony Computer Entertainment took its time to bring the more expensive and far more ambitious Sony Playstation 3 console to the video gaming market. There are two versions of the Play Station 3 console, just like there are two versions of Xbox 360.
Both versions of the Playstation 3 console incorporate IBM's new high-tech "Cell" processor, BD-ROM (integrated Blu-ray Disc), and High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) video output.
Sony Playstation with 20GB is the base version selling for between $510 and $720 USD from seven stores. An upgrade to the Playstation 3 with 60GB doesn't seem to cost that much more at $550 to $1,100 at twelve stores. Extras are included but this list is not all inclusive:
integrated Wi-Fi
multi format memory card reader
fancy silver trim
60GB instead of 20GB

There are a lot of raves for the graphics from the Playstation 3 console but there are some serious complaints as well. For the price of the Playstation 3 console in either version, it certainly is worth checking the system out first hand before buying.
One comment above really hits home by stating that the Playstation 3 console with 60GB isn't that much better than the Xbox 360 Premium priced at $300 to $1,500 at 58 stores. Is the Playstation 3 console with 60GB worth the approximately $200 USD more when compared to Xbox 360 Premium?
Maybe not right now but think about this: the Playstation 3 console is the seventh generation video game console from Sony Computer Entertainment. It's going to take time for video game developers to tweak their software to get the most out of the Playstation 3 console or SIXAXIS controller.
For the time being the Microsoft Xbox 360 Premium is still on top with their one year lead time to market. But Sony developed the Playstation 3 console with a sexy, sleek, futuristic design with touch-sensitivity unlike any other game console currently on the market. The price may seem steep right now but this is a system that will take a gamer into the 21st century with great expectations of things yet to come.
