Woodworking Tools Videos

Have you ever wondered what it takes to create and upload your own woodworking tools videos? There is no particular talent required but certain equipment must be available to make it happen.

For example, you need a video camera that allows you to upload your video digitally to your computer. HobbyInterest uses a Sony Handycam DCR-HC21 digital video camera recorder with an IEEE 1394 DV interface to upload recordings directly to the PC. The Dell PC came equipped with Microsoft MovieMaker software which allows the file to be converted to a format suitable for web broadcasting such as WMV.

The software compresses the video at the same time so the resulting file is smaller in size than that which originated in the camera without losing too much integrity. The better the compression format, the less grainy the resulting video clip with be.

YouTube allows free upload of video files that meet their terms of service and do not exceed 100MB or 10 minutes in length. Similar video sharing sites include Google Video and Yahoo Video. Be sure to search them too for woodworking plan videos.

Of course you will also require the use of woodworking tools to make the demonstration video. Many found online are at schools or community group facilities, so if you don't have your own woodworking tools perhaps you can find a group to help you out.

The camera can be setup on a tripod in one location to film you in action or can be held by another person who then closely follows your work as you progress through your project on video. No matter how simple the woodworking tools, videos can be competently completed with a well rehearsed dialog, the addition of a title screen, credits screen, and an appropriate sound track.

If you specialize in any particular woodworking tools, videos about your specialty can help you promote yourself or your products, if you make things to sell.
